Children's Education

In years past we have discussed Jews in the diaspora, the importance of Shabbat and the story of Channukah. We discussed the spread of Jews around the world and the children shared what they learned with the whole community at a Shabbat service. That service included a potluck dinner with dishes from Jewish communities around the world. We also had a mock Shabbat service to help us understand the meaning of Shabbat. Most recently, we learned about the story of Channukah and put on a Channukah play for the Little Minyan's Channukah party in December.
The Little Minyan's children's learning sessions consists of two groups.  Group Alef is roughly K-3rd grade and group Bet is 4th through bar/bat mitzvah age.
Group Alef is taking up the challenge of teaching our younger children basic Judaism using a home-schooling approach. They will meet approximately 2 times per month, not including Shabbatot with the community, community celebrations or holiday services.  The meetings will typically include  basic hebrew, singing, learning about a seasonal topic and a craft or activity.

Group Bet: For 4th grade and older, a separate educational experience is occuring once-a-month, for a two hour session.  For more information on how your child can be involved in this, email Jessica at jslind@columbus.rr.com
We would love to have more families join us. We have an exciting year ahead of us. Our group is hoping to go beyond learning solely about Jewish holidays and also talk about what it means to be Jewish, having a Jewish home, and more. If you are interested in joining us please contact Emia at eo10@cornell.edu. Additionally, if you would like to volunteer your expertise on some topic you feel relevant to the children's Jewish Education please contact us.
