The Little Minyan celebrates Erev Shabbat as a community at least once each month with innovative as well as traditional approaches to prayer and worship. In addition, our community celebrates many Jewish holy days together and frequently adds Havdalah to our Saturday afternoon and evening activities. Our siddur, Kol HaNeshamah Shabbat Vehagim, is the Reconstructionist prayerbook, and our services reflect our progressive, independent, egalitarian community and draw from numerous sources.
Our worship is led by members of our community experienced in service leadership and allows for intellectual and spiritual exploration of Shabbat and other holidays. Participation by members of the community is encouraged and enhances our Shabbat joy and ruach (spirit). We attempt to provide our congregation with opportunities to better understand the meanings and purposes of prescribed liturgy as well as gain exposure to different approaches to tradition.
Our Worship Design Team is composed not only of members of our community interested in leading our worship, but also members interested in assisting us in determining the scope and direction of the Little Minyan's religious services, experiences, holiday celebrations, and rituals. The team focuses a great deal of our collective and individual energy on designing Shabbat and holy day communal worship opportunities. However, we also work on "big picture" issues which traditionally fall under the "rabbinic umbrella" in Jewish spiritual communities. The Worship Design Team brings decisions, suggestions and questions to the larger community for feedback.
